Axolotls are very unique salamanders! They are always young/don't go through metmorphosis and come in multiple colors, most notably wild type/brown and leucistic/pink. They can also regenerate limbs, which is cool! This phenomenon is being used to study regenerable parts in humans. They can be found naturally around Mexico City, but this is where the problem begins. As Mexico City grew, water was drained from the freshwater lakes they live in, which then became polluted. Fish such as tilapia and carp were introduced, adding additional competition against the axolotls. As a result, axolotls are now considered Critically Endangered.
