Offer wholesome meals that are healthy and nutritious; New York City Food Standards.
Menus should rotate through the week to provide variety for recipients.
Each meal should be 14-16 oz in total weight, broken down roughly to:
6 oz protein
4 oz starch or grain
4 oz vegetable
Meals should be designed to be reheated if necessary - recipients won't necessarily eat meals right away; Food Safe Temperatures.
Adhere to any food allergens or specific 'culturally sensitive' food requirements, e.g. including vegetarian, halal, kids, seniors, cold meals, hot meals etc.
FSN recommends limiting use of tree nuts, peanuts, and shellfish.
Meals should be plated with dignity and the container should look full.
If possible, source packaging that is not made of polystyrene; biodegradable is preferred.
