This module is about the economics of innovation and technical change, it will focus on:
- Exploring theoretical contributions in evolutionary and structural economics
- Techno-economic paradigms
- National and sectoral systems of innovation
- Innovation dynamics in different country contexts and how these contexts factor constraints and translate into new markets, products and purposes
The core aims + concepts in this module are:
- To understand various interrelated economic policy areas and approaches in the context of innovation and public purpose
- The why, what and how of mission-orientated innovation policy making, placing innovation process into the context of state action and wider social change
- Explore place-based industrial and innovation policy models, instruments and innovation across economies (contexts)
- Introduction to the economics of innovation and how powerful actors may impede sustainable innovation or capture the benefits of innovation in a way that is not compatable with public good
