Pre-Pilot Qualitative Data

1. CHEW + TBA Digital Literacy Focus Group

Purpose: confirm if proposed data collection duties are feasible and test UX/UI designs

For TBAs

  1. Existing Competency - questions to ask.
    1. How often do you use a phone?
    2. Which of these two phones seems simpler to use? (mobile vs. smartphone?)
    3. Do you make phone calls often?
    4. Who do you usually call?
    5. Do you dial the phone number or have a family member help out?
  2. Phone Number Recall - give TBAs a phone number at beginning of session, work with the same number throughout the session, test recall at end.
  3. Speed Dial - test success in dialling phone number vs. using speed dial.
  4. Extension - test if TBAs understand an automated voice giving them extension options + actually selecting the right number for extension.
  5. Phone Use - ask TBAs to teach instructor how to use three mobile applications (go to and use camera, phone pad and contacts).
  6. Icon Size - test largeness vs. smallness of numbers on screen.

For CHEWS

  1. Existing Competency - questions to ask.
    1. How often do you use a phone?
    2. Do you use a phone on your own or with the help of a family member or friend?
    3. How long have you used a phone for?
    4. What mobile applications do you typically use?
    5. What do you use your phone for the most?
  2. UI/UX Test - largeness/smallness of icons, intuitive.
  3. Colour - what do different colours usually mean in an app to CHEWs (green for submit, red for go back etc.)

2. Familial Attitudes Towards PHCs and CHEWs

Purpose: determine objections to a transport scheme and CHEW home visits

  1. Does your family believe in the use of PHCs?
  2. What is your opinion on Westernized medicine? Why?
