When claiming a quest with Flashlight equipped, the all modifiers will be doubled but, if the quest gives animals or items (not a relic transformed into items), it reduces the amount of animals / items by 1. The changes are shown in the quest preview.
This relic only takes effect when finishing a quest, so there is no reason to have it equipped the rest of the time. This means that you should only have it equipped during 12h / quest. You should also try to use it with modifiers that guarantee higher chance of good things happening, mainly relics as they don’t get affected by -1 animal / item. One of the best modifiers to use with Flaslight is therefore Modest.
Before Zoo Bot, Flaslight’s effect was “Quest rewards give one extra animal but one less item” as the modifiers didn’t exist back then.
