Overview

The Fish Welfare Decision System is a decision-support tool designed to identify the primary drivers of welfare loss in aquaculture systems.

The tool integrates:

• evidence-based welfare drivers
• contextual system modelling
• interaction effects
• sentience-adjusted prioritisation

to help identify where interventions can reduce the greatest amount of suffering.

This prototype represents an early step toward a broader suite of decision-support tools for animal welfare, policy, and food-system decision-making.

The Problem

Fish welfare decisions are often fragmented and difficult to prioritise.

Different systems may experience multiple welfare problems simultaneously:
