Demonstrate an understanding of:
- assessing the situation
- making the area safe
- comforting and reassuring the casualty
- the primary survey of a casualty - using DRABC
- the secondary survey of a casualty
- using the mnemonic ‘AMPLE’ when assessing a casualty
- how to arrange for help
- the importance of keeping notes, where possible.
A minimum stock of first aid items might include:
- a leaflet giving general guidance on first aid
- individually wrapped, sterile plasters (assorted sizes), appropriate to the type of work (hypoallergenic plasters can be provided if necessary)
- sterile eye pads
- individually wrapped, triangular bandages (preferably sterile)
- safety pins
