Note: this is a list of recommendations for further consideration, not a final list of projects guaranteed to receive funding. It is also assembled by taking notes during a live meeting that is not recorded, so CivicLex cannot guarantee 100% accuracy. However, this is our clearest possible understanding of what will be moved to the COW on October 26.
The Critical City Services/ Public Safety held a meeting last Thursday, October 21, to finalize the recommendations they would like to bring to the Committee of the Whole on ARPA funding next week. They made revisions to their previous list of proposed projects, and decided on the following funding recommendations.
Proposals Moved Forward:
- $3.1 million for SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) Gear for the Fire Department
- Allows for full replacement of all current SCBA gear, including face masks, rapid intervention packs, and more. The current equipment is 3 operational cycles outside of compliance and no longer supported by the manufacturer.
- $6.1 million for Fire Department fleet replacements
- $5 million for Police Department fleet replacements
- Including replacing 81 Crown Victoria Vehicles with Chevy Tahoes and 16 other units with Toyota Camrys
- $4 million for general LFUCG fleet replacements in
- Includes vehicles for Building Inspection, Code Enforcement, Community Correction, Parks Maintenance, Streets & Roads, Youth Services, and others
- $600k for renovations to the Black and Williams neighborhood center Gymnasium
- Including drainage, utility lines, exterior doors, the roof, HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, asbestos abatement, ADA compliant restrooms, flooring, lighting, and other projects
- $2.5 million for a new Fire Department Training Academy facility
- The current training facility is outdated and poses health and safety risks because it does not have a functioning shower
The subgroup is also recommending that the Community Paramedicine Program and One Lexington receive funding through the LFUCG budget but not ARPA funds.
