The Origins of the Documentary
In May 2021, Linda Xie publicly called on Twitter for ideas to create a documentary, a bold move in the film industry. A month later, Morgan Beller introduced the film crew to Vitalik. Shortly after, the Ethereum: The Infinite Garden NFT project appeared on Mirror, seeking funds to produce the film.
Within just 51 hours, 1,035.96 ETH (~$2.4 million) was raised via NFT sales, breaking the slow, closed traditional film funding system.
The three-year journey spans the rise of NFTs, global disruptions, Ethereum’s major upgrades, and growing pains. Filmed across 28 cities in 15 countries, the creators took an unconventional approach in 2024. Instead of a typical film release, they collaborated with Zora, Bonfire, and Base to launch the trailer and tickets on streaming platforms, yet again breaking traditional film industry norms.
