Genesis

October 2024, I (Pierre-Louis) just came back from an epic and overwhelming journey on the Pacific Crest Trail. My legs still hurt from the adventure and beg for some rest. My heart however is still wide open and demands more.

I treat myself to the book “One Year on a Bike” by Martijn Doolaard. I want to continue travelling, but with words and photographs now.

The author leaves Amsterdam and cycles toward Singapore. On his way, somewhere in the Middle-East, he meets a Belgian couple travelling on a tandem bike.

Tilt. Touché. The idea of a synchronized trip with a trusted partner makes me feel adventurous again. I can’t get the idea out of my mind.

In 2022, I backpacked across Latin America for six months with two friends, Hugues and Baptiste. The memories are still very vivid to this day and we often talk about some funny, scary and intense moments we experienced. Not without a touch of nostalgia.

We have to get on the road again.

But a three-seater tandem, does that exist? Yes it does. It’s called a “triplette”.

A three-meter-long bike with three handlebars, three seats and three sets of pedals.

In January 2025, I share my plan with them: “We’re going to cycle across Europe on a triplette. Be prepared, I’m not going to let go of this idea.”

The idea

The h is silent [ˈfriː]
