Privacy Policy for Fake News Detector
Last updated: May 20, 2026
- OVERVIEW
Fake News Detector is a Chrome extension that analyzes news articles for
credibility. This policy explains exactly what data is accessed, why, and
what happens to it.
- DATA ACCESSED
When you click "Analyze", the extension accesses:
- The URL of the current tab (to identify the source domain)
- The title of the current tab (to check headline consistency)
- The visible text content of the article on the page (to run AI analysis)
The extension does NOT access:
- Your browsing history
- Any other open tabs
- Cookies or login sessions
- Any personal or account information
- DATA TRANSMISSION
The URL, title, and article text are transmitted over HTTPS to our analysis
server hosted on Hugging Face Spaces solely to perform a one-time credibility
check. This transmission occurs only when you explicitly click "Analyze".
- DATA RETENTION
Our server does not log, store, or retain any user data after returning the
analysis result. No database of articles or users is maintained.
- LOCAL STORAGE
The analysis result (credibility scores and flags) is temporarily stored in
your browser using chrome.storage.local so the results page can display it.
This data never leaves your device and can be cleared at any time by removing
the extension.
- THIRD-PARTY SHARING
We do not sell, share, or transfer any data to third parties. The only
external service involved is the Hugging Face Spaces hosting platform, which
processes the analysis request.
- CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
This extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly
collect data from minors.
- CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with
a new "Last updated" date.
