So, you wanna write a script ay? ๐Ÿ˜‰

But you don't know where to start? And maybe, just maybe, the powerpoint was a bit overwhelming? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Worry not! I am here to clear a few things up! ๐Ÿ˜

โ“WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? ๐Ÿฟ

Every year, we ask our society to submit their short film scripts for a chance to be selected as ONE of the THREE final scripts we choose to produce as Short films.

The scripts do not have to be masterpieces - heck if it's a masterpiece then send it to ALL THE STUDIOS. ๐Ÿ˜œ

We are looking for cool, and effective stories which are based around simple premises. Remember: we have a very small budget and cannot produce a film about Space dinosaurs (as much as John wants us to...)๐Ÿ™Š

Take last year's 'Two's Company' by the fabulous Isis, our Head of Communications. The story is set in a flat with three friends, requiring no crazy settings or million quid props. This meant she could pitch it in 5 minutes and explain her characters in such a loving and effective way as there is room for their themes and depths to shine through when we donโ€™t have to focus on elaborate plots or stunts!

*remember this is a short student film, itโ€™s not going to be your masterpiece ! Use this time to build strong characters and themes and experiment with your writing style, this is just the start of your writing journey. You canโ€™t expect to create a whole world of mythical creatures before establishing the individual characters that make up that world.

Here's the link to the video I was talking about in the filmmaking taster session (why student films often fail) - ๐Ÿšจhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLB2wcoiomo

The video offers an in-depth analysis into the reasons why many student shorts fail, and why it is ESSENTIAL to master the craft of simple storytelling, before jumping on the DeLorean!

๐ŸฟWHAT TO SUBMIT๐Ÿ“

For the application, we are asking for three things:
