Our goal is to create a transparent organizational structure that avoids both red tape and confusion. Given our stage, flexibility is key. Our structure will change over time and allow us to scale efficiently. Thematically we are working to reduce multi-layered management and push down decision making across the company. We are all pursuing our vocation, and management's core job function is to promote individual growth through mentorship.

Seniority and Role are the two key elements of our organization.
Seniority
Your level at the company. Influences your responsibilities and compensation. Will change over time as we grow.
- Entry - Works with a manager to complete tasks and responsibilities. Is measured on performance and effort not outcomes. Entry level employees are in a new role for the first time.
- IC - Capable of managing work independently. Contributors can mentor entry level employees and manage interns, but do not play a role in compensation discussions.
- Senior IC - Capable of managing work independently and guiding new project development. Senior contributors can mentor contributors, but do not play a role in compensation discussions.
- Lead - Own a functional area of the business and manage ICs that are on their team. Critical members of leadership team, but do not control the roadmap and are not responsible for the health of the business.
- Head - Senior leadership at the company. Work with founders to make business decisions and play a role in defining the culture of the organization. Involved in investor management and responsible for the overall success of Air. This is the first role where outcomes matter more than reasons.
Role
An additional function of your job. Most are aimed at leveling up other employees and being involved in strategic business decisions. Additional roles may emerge over time.
- Manager - Currently, managers must be a Lead or a Head (this will change over time). They run quarterly reviews, weigh in on salary discussions, and are responsible for codifying and promoting employee growth. For additional guidance please review Management Expectations
- Mentor - Mentors are refining their teaching skills by taking an active role in a junior employee's development. They can be designated by a Manager, but they do not dictate workload. They help mentees grow professional and/or complete their projects more efficiently. For additional guidance please review Mentorship @ Air
