Euclid Manor is rooted in social impact and generosity of spirit. We celebrate bold thinking, playfulness and connection in our events and home life. Our residents are changemakers dedicated to living the experiment of a more just, sustainable and interdependent world. We find the work of living in community to be worthwhile in the journey towards modeling a more harmonious world. We practice generative conflict resolution strategies & collaborative decision making/problem solving. We cherish and celebrate diversity (race, gender, age, sexuality, ability, lifestyle) and are earnestly engaged in the beautiful work of building a multiracial household.

The People

Current residents work on creating systemic societal change, tech startups, climate solutions, theatrical performance, sexual health, dance and movement practices, international development, Chinese medicine, design, and more.

We are deeply committed to maintaining a nurturing, clean, supportive home. We value open and non-violent communication; we are QTPOC-welcoming; we are comfortable challenging each other’s views while respecting the sanctity and peace of home. We are silly and curious and introverts and extroverts and ambiverts. We love each other a lot.

The house, built in 1910, is a 13 bedroom mansion located a block north of Lake Merritt in the Adams Point neighborhood of Oakland, very close to the Grand Lake Theatre. We have a detached carriage house in the back, a basement, 2.5 kitchens, two washers, two dryers, a garage for storage, a bike storage shed, a piano, 3 fireplaces, and definitely no ghosts.

Logistics

• We run a house food program that allows us to purchase local, organic, and ethically-sourced food, while also keeping a tight budget. We each contribute $250 per month each and it covers all of our house supplies, house dinners, and 80% to 100% of everyone's everyday food needs. We take turns cooking big house dinners every Sunday and Wednesday night.
• We have house meetings every 3 weeks. We have informal fun house activities all the time.
• We have high standards for cleanliness. Each resident is responsible for helping with basic upkeep of the house, as well as chores that may take up to an hour a week.
• We use Slack for communication and all residents are expected to keep up-to-date with it.
• Utilities are $100/month, including everything. Move-in deposits are 1.5x rent. Couples pay $100 extra rent and $25 extra utilities if they share a room. We have three driveway spots that people can rent for $50/month, and everyone else parks on the street.
• Our ages range from mid-20s to early 40s. We have also had housemates in the past who are babies. We are open to living with wise elders.
