Eleanor Turnbull works between London and Cornwall, UK. She uses sculpture and blogging to animate the lonely landscapes around her. On YouTube she’s Nora Jelly; cute and creepy. Her cameraphone is a clunky extension of her own body and jerky movements will convey her awkward and unapologetic interactions with the world.

She grapples with social communication as life switches between URL and IRL, between human and non-human subjects. Watch her try to make sense or non-sense of it all below:

THE GARDEN

Mine and @Tuli Litvak s show The Garden, launched in the show space over Jan. It was a text adventure game, see a play through below:

Here's the blurb:

The Garden is a text-led art adventure. Choose your path or let The Garden lead you through performance and moving image works devised in Tuli and Eleanor’s locked-down worlds.

Here, social interaction, self-care and nostalgia for the outdoors collapse into a garish and grassy URL. It might be dark at times or even creepy, but amongst the dead ends lies humour, and a warm fuzzy feeling as the Garden sinks you into its endless loops and rituals.

you can play it through the new link here

Working on editing a game walk through to document The Garden - like the classic gamer youtube channels. They have winey annoying voices and conversations (see deadly prem vid opposite, inspired by my hatred of waking up every morning to the sound of them, and the vid below, the walk through I ripped it from by Super Best Friends Play). I want the voices in my walk through to laugh at and mock the videos in The Garden. So I've recorded my mum, a technophobe, playing through and exclaiming about how it all doesn't make sense.

100% going to use this text adventure click through narrative in future work - see below for where im going to use it in previous work i wrote about here, that wasn't moving forward:

A ROCK POOL IS NEVER EMPTY

I've been going to this rock pool since i was a kid. I've been emptying it with the same spoon for three years now. All this stuff here is about me trying to break this habit. I'm trying to turn the spoon into the actual rock pool. Maybe that will work for me... not a clue if the spoon will ever get made or even if i've made a piece of work here yet?

UPDATE: I've made the spoon, its terrible (see below), but i'm embracing how terrible it is. Thinking to make this whole journey into a text adventure (see The Garden above). Thinking to mend the holes in the spoon with green stuff, thinking to make a bunch of slip casted rock pools, badly, and slumped. same with the spoons.

I've been using alginate to shrink the rock pool down to the size of the spoon. This is the 6th alginate cast. Its small enough now to model onto the spoon, hopefully I can make a metal cast mould from this model to turn it into a real spoon

3D Scan of my favourite rock pool ( see 00:02:40 in 'is that why you're ignoring me?') Thought i could shrink it down in the software and merge it with the spoon and print it.... didn't work out...

I took a mould of the rock pool so i could take it back to London (see 00:02:40 in 'is that why you're ignoring me')

rock pool spoon/ Rock soup. first cast, lots of holes, needs sanding, but i might leave it ... i like how bad it is.

TRAPPED PEBBLES

Trapped pebbles - I made this video into a digital stone circle as part of The Garden (see above). Trapped Pebbles was the central video and the circle around it was made up of the 3D scanned pebbles that featured in Trapped Pebbles.

In The Garden, i think this was the most confusing part to play and understand. Im figuring out how this can stand alone, separate from the text adventure and to potentially make it physical. To potentially slip cast each pebble. Use the moulds as a projection screen.

I watched a documentary last night about discovering that Stone Henge originated in Wales. one piece of evidence was a 3D scan of the stone fitting like a key into a 3D scan of the hole they'd uncovered in Wales. How do i fit my 3D scans into a physical space again? This ties in with my mould-making too.

There is also a wooden stone henge that potentially represented life, the stone circle representing death. I'm based in Cornwall, a place full of stone circles, standing stones, Dolmans. Recent read: The Living Stones by Ithell Colquhoun
