ABOUT

For centuries, and still today, women have been followed by prescriptions: who to be, how to look, how to fit the “proper” model. But this exhibition is not about rules and not about slogans. It is about the fact that a woman’s reality is always individual, layered, and impossible to reduce to a single formula.

Across cultures, virtues have often been projected onto the female image—from Western allegories of Prudence, Fortitude, and Temperance to Eastern teachings of 仁义礼智信 (benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, integrity). At first sight, these appeared as rigid norms, yet within them lay subtle wisdom: the mirror as a symbol of inner reflection, fortitude as softness and not only armor, temperance as a personal rhythm and not merely the denial of desire. We do not stand against these traditions—on the contrary, we reveal how in different contexts they gain depth and unfold new meanings.

So the central question becomes: how do women live while carrying these virtues inscribed by nature?

They live by weaving them with personal experience and the circumstances of their time, transforming ancient ideals into new combinations—into business suits paired with silk scarves, into armor remade as a coat with silk lining, into imperfect brushstrokes that speak more truthfully than any ideal.

What makes this exhibition unique is the meeting of two artistic perspectives: an Eastern gaze and a Slavic gaze. In their dialogue arises a special tension and harmony—a meeting of cultural memory and contemporary experience, where virtues are reimagined and begin to resonate anew.

This exhibition is an invitation not to see “what a woman should be,” but to witness “how women are living”: preserving inner virtues while filling them with their own rhythm and voice, in contradictions and balance, in tradition and modernity. And perhaps it is precisely this continuous, individual reality that reveals the true virtue of our time.
