About Us

🚀 Do you want to join those shifting industrial chemistry from petrol to green chemistry?

Exapto is a synbio company creating biocomponents with no equivalents know in nature. By integrating those in strains and production processes, Exapto offers disruptive solutions to both ameliorate existing bioproductions and get to chemicals that were previously not accessible from renewable resources.

🌍 This is done by collaborating with leading scientists globally (today Charité in Berlin & DTU in Copenhagen and Ecole Polytechnique, near Paris).

Exapto’s solutions provide key foundations for the large-scale bio-manufacturing of industry relevant chemicals. Backed international investors, the company has been founded by Philippe Marlière, synbio expert with 100+ patents and cofounder of several companies (2 exits and 1 IPO), together with Guillaume Dupont, 20+ years in tech investing and co-founder of VC fund Caphorn.

Job Summary

This is a rare opportunity to shape the computational future of a company from the ground up. As our AI Lead, you will define and drive the research and engineering direction of a team you build yourself, setting the vision, making the key technical calls, and taking full ownership of how AI transforms what we do. You will bring deep expertise in Machine Learning and Computational Biology to bear on some of the hardest open problems in synthetic biology: designing novel enzymes, uncovering new-to-nature pathways, and pushing the frontier of what AI can discover in living systems.

Responsibilities

  1. Design, own and lead the execution of the in-silico roadmap, including machine learning, bioinformatics, cheminformatics and physics-based modelling and data pipelines.
  2. Work closely with wet lab scientists and senior leadership to build ML native wet lab protocols.
  3. Build and grow the computational team required to accomplish Exapto’s new to nature vision.
  4. Conduct extensive benchmark of existing computational pipelines and propose new methods in enzyme discovery, pathway design and metabolic engineering.
  5. Proactively identify and address technical challenges, stay updated on the latest AI advancements, and focus on developing solutions that translate cutting-edge AI research into tangible tools and workflows, empowering our wet lab teams to move faster and discover more.
