Primary Indication for ECT
- Major Depression ,especially with melancholia, Cataonic or psychotic features. ECT is is highly effective treatment for major depression, Demonstrating remission rate more than 60%
- High suicidal risk
- Failure to eat or drink adequately when there has been inadequate response to antidepressent
- Mania where other strategies fail to gain remission
- Schizophrenia with acute features where other strategies have to fall to achieve remission

- Acute Confusion
- Anterograde amnesia
- Retrograde amnesia
