What is a Dropzone Data Request?

A Dropzone Data Request is used to request data from someone through email who is not a member of your Workspace. By requesting data using Dropzone, you enable an external user to upload specific data to one of your Pipelines.

The external user will need to sign up for a Dropbase account, however, they will not need a subscription plan or to create Workspace to send you data. External users sending you data will not have to pay for Dropbase.

Dropzone Requests can be used to replace SFTP servers or regular data dumps by email. Simply request from an external partner and they can upload data from offline or online sources directly to your Pipeline until you terminate the Dropzone Request.

Requesting/Receiving Data Using Dropzone

Data can be requested from either a Worksheet or a Pipeline. When requesting data from a Worksheet, the Steps in the Worksheet's Dataflow will deployed as a Pipeline and the Dropzone Request can be managed from the Pipelines page.

Requesting Data From a Worksheet

When requesting data, you first need to load your data to your Database. To do this, import data to a Worksheet, add and run the Processing steps that you want to apply, and load your data to either a new or existing table.

After your data has been loaded to the database, the "Deploy & Request Data" button at the top of the right sidebar will be enabled. Select the "Deploy & Request Data" button, enter the Pipeline name, export location and export method as well as the data sender's email and the Dropzone Data Request name. Optional information like a Pipeline description, Dropzone description, or Dropzone instructions can be added as well. Once ready, select "Deploy & Request Data" to send the request.

Once you send a request, the data sender will receive an email notification. You will be notified by email when they have fulfilled the request. Once the request has been fulfilled, navigate back to your Pipeline Manager and select the Dropzone Import card for this request in your Pipeline. Here, you will need to accept or reject the incoming data. By clicking accept, the requested data will be ingested into your Pipeline.

Requesting Data From a Pipeline

Open the Pipeline Manager using the icon in the top menubar. Select the "Request Data" button at the top right of the desired Pipeline. Enter the data sender's email, the name of the Dropzone Request, and optionally enter a description and instructions for the request. Select "Request Data" to confirm.

Sending Data Using Dropzone

Sending data from Dropzone follows the same flow as importing data, for extra information on how to import data, please refer to the "Importing Data" doc.

To send data using Dropzone, you must first open your Data Request Manager, which can be found in the top menubar. Within the Data Request Manager, you can see all the data requests that have been sent to you directly, or that are associated to one of your Workspaces. By default, any new incoming Dropzone Data Request will be displayed in the Direct Requests section of the Data Request Manager.

Data requests can be moved into a Workspace, which will give you access to all the saved Data Connectors in that Workspace. You can also send data without associating the data request to a Workspace by leaving it in the default Direct Requests section.

To send data, click on the Dropzone Request card in your Data Request Manager and follow the instructions. The steps are similar to those of import data described in the "Importing Data" doc.
