By this stage the name of my brand has changed from Arcadia to MRI. As previously stated, I felt the name didn’t reflect what my brand is aiming to do. I choose a more direct approach to simply name it MRI, which is very relevant to the topic at hand. The idea for this name came from one of my lecturers who changed the acronym of MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to Mixed Reality Interface. The ”I” in this acronym had the flexibility to be changed to a more suitable word, but the “MR” part was fixed. Once I was provided with this potential name, I was quite impressed as I didn’t think to look at MRI as an acronym I could bend to my own purpose. It is a great lesson I will be mindful of for the future if I am ever creating new brands.

After hearing this I decided that the name MRI would be a suitable name for my app and as I previously said, it is the most relevant name for the topic I am researching. From this then, I began sketching out a few potential logos.

The image shown above were the ideas I had for MRI by just using the letters mainly and without relying on icons. I experimented with the position of the letters and how I could link them all together. I liked a few of these designs, but they weren’t good enough to be proper logos. This then resulted in me trying to include icons into the name. Like the Arcadia designs, I still felt I had to include a VR headset into my logo somehow, to advertise that its VR. I felt the ideal logo would be incorporating VR with MRI. So, from the last drawing on the page (bottom right), I decided to design it further.

This then resulted in this design being created. As you can see I thought I could use the dot on the letter “I” as one of the lens’ on a VR headset and the other over the “M”. I felt I was going in the right direction by including an icon of VR in the name. However, I was still a long way of from creating my final design. Nevertheless, the gap was narrowing.

Rather than focusing on the name being the main logo, I felt I needed to look outside the box, literally. This would lead to me creating the outer design of a MRI scanner and including it within a VR headset, like the image centre-bottom of the page. This idea ended up being my logo. I included the wordmark “My MRI” under the logo to see how it looked. As a result, I decided to further change the name to this, as I believe it’s more personal to the user, as it is their MRI scan after all.

As you can see, I drew other random shapes and icons that was in my head at the time. This led me to draw a logo that could include a user lying in the machine within a VR icon. All the other ideas could now be scrapped as I believed this type of design was the best for my brand.

This then led me to create my final logo, which you can see in my next blog post.
