Follow our team as we prepare, travel, and serve alongside Project Mañana in Santiago de los Caballeros this June!

Day 7

6/22/21

We had an early morning start to our journey back to Little Rock. On the bus at 5:30, we were sad to say “See you soon” to our Dominican friends who hosted us SO well over the past week. The Lord was gracious to give us smooth flights and connections…and we took advantage of the layovers to squeeze in a few last rounds of games. The Lord continued to provide joy, patience, and unity despite tired bodies and minds. By the time we landed back in Little Rock, we were so excited to be welcomed family and friends…and all in need of a long, hot shower!

God showed up in big ways this trip. As I look over the prayer points listed throughout this blog, it’s so clear to see His answers to Every. Single. One. His goodness and mercy went before us and He was faithful to respond to the prayers of His people. Please accept a heartfelt “Thank You” on behalf of the entire team to those who followed along with us and labored in prayer on our behalf! Your faithfulness directly contributed to everything that God did through and in this team.

FOR HIS GLORY,

-Will

Day 6

6/21/21

Beach day! After breakfast this morning, we loaded up in the bus for a two hour drive north through the mountains. Breathtaking views (and incredibly sharp corners) accompanied our journey to the sea. We were blessed to spend the morning and afternoon relaxing on the sand, swimming, snorkeling, and even taking a banana boat extravaganza. Lunch included fresh caught fish (although the vast majority of the team stuck with the chicken) and our team even tried their hand at bartering with the beach vendors...and somehow purchased 31 wooden turtles?

After we returned to the guesthouse, we sat down for our last team debrief. We worshipped, discussed our strategies for cultural reentry, then spent time honoring one another and the work that the Lord accomplished through each team member. What a sweet way to wrap up our time in the Dominican Republic!

Today represented a welcome change of pace. Following breakfast, we headed to San Pablo to participate in worship services at the same church we had worked at earlier in the week. It was such a blessing to see the church members benefiting from our efforts. As we sang, prayed, and opened God's Word together, we were reminded of the incredible privilege it is to experience the fellowship of the Spirit with brothers and sisters in Christ across cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic barriers. It was truly a glimpse of eternity as we look forward to the day when every nation will bring its praise and glory to King Jesus (Rev 21:22-26).

Following church, we had lunch with the church's pastor and his wife. We were blessed by their incredible testimony of God's call on their lives and we were challenged by their faithful example of humble obedience to leave the comforts of their old life behind and move their young family into the slums that their church serves.

After lunch, we split the group, with the ladies enjoying manicures and pedicures (provided by young women currently going through an apprenticeship in cosmetics with Project Mañana). The older guys on our team headed into Santiago to a Dominican barber shop for a shave and a trim...but mostly a cultural experience! Regardless of the location, we were blessed to immerse ourselves in the local culture more fully and build stronger relationships with locals and our teammates.

We returned to the guesthouse for dinner and ended the day in worship, prayer, and testimony. We spent time reflecting on the things that God has been speaking to us over the past five days and discussing what we see Him calling us to as we prepare to return.
