A cold DM is an unsolicited message sent to someone you don't know, usually to sell something. It's called "cold" because there's no existing relationship.

The key is to find a right person, build some relationship to make it not so cold, wait for the right moment, then pitch.

How to find leads

There are many places you can find them. The simplest way is using 𝕏.

Search for keywords related to your niche. Look for people complaining about problems your product solves. Example:

Besides searching, I recommend reading the 𝕏 feed daily. You will quickly start noticing prospects just by hanging out there.

Your perfect candidate is under 3k followers, posting frequently, working in your SaaS niche. If they are too popular, you are risking getting unnoticed. If they don’t post at least every 3 days, it means they probably don't check DMs.

Those people must be decision makers:

  1. A founder or a C-level of a small, under 2 years old company.
  2. A worker which can make a buying decision. E.g. if you are selling a marketing tool, that person must be the leading marketing person in their company.
  3. An individual. Freelancers, consultants, or content creators who buy tools with their own money.

Another source of leads is your competitors’ 𝕏. Find such companies. Open their “Followers” list. All those people are your potential clients. You just need to pick the right ones (decision maker, under 3k followers, posting regularly).

Alternatively, you can use startup databases such as Product Hunt. Monitor it daily. See which recently launched projects can benefit from your SaaS. Pick the right people and add their 𝕏 account to your “leads” list.

Use the tips above to make a list of 50 potential buyers. Follow them all.
