Our thrive students live in a world with growing discourse and need. It is important to us to cultivate an awareness in our students of their role and potential to be a positive influence in their communities and society. Teachers help students to build strong relationships, to build self confidence and to act in a culturally sensitive manner. We encourage students to take on leadership roles and help encourage trust and communication among students which in turn enhances their motivation to succeed.

At thrive we believe that children’s brain capacities are increased when they feel physically and emotionally safe and connected to others. In a supportive environment, where social and emotional learning is emphasized along with academics, students have a better chance of emerging with self-awareness, confidence, and a sense of social responsibility. Students who are tasked with solving real-world problems that exist in their communities emerge with strong critical-thinking skills. These hands-on, philanthropic projects grow in our students a deeper care and understanding of how they affect and can impact the world and people around them.

Through our LifeSchool program our students are guided in proactive opportunities to find meaning through making connections with their surrounding community. Teachers partner with community members, including families, residents, organizations and the natural environment around the hubs to provide expanded learning opportunities.

Some examples of these partnerships and projects are:

Our Hermanus Hub helped an organization to move ocean fish from smaller, unsatisfactory environments where they were struggling to survive, to larger open water at the local beach.
