Instructor: Mr. Schwebach

Digital sports, or "esports," has boomed as an industry in the last decade, and is estimated to generate over $1 billion in revenue in 2019 alone. Besides the entertainment it provides, a number of colleges have started their own competitive esports teams, and the NMAA now coordinates competitions between New Mexico schools. This year, EMHS will begin participating in the competition.

This discovery project is oriented around understanding the cultural phenomenon of eSports, considering its history, development, and future. Additionally, we will be spending substantial time exploring the coordination and team-building components at the heart of competitive eSports.

<aside> ⚠️ This project will not involve sitting in front of a computer for eight hours a day playing video games. While gaming will be a component of the experience, we will spend a substantial amount of time reading, thinking, and meditating. (Yes, meditating.) If you are going to be grumpy when I pull you away from a computer to engage in a discussion, please do not sign up for this project—I have enough children at home, and don't want to deal with them at work 🙂
