Digital Riso

Digital Riso is an exploration into using stochastic techniques to create small animations for graphic design. This technique provides a grainy quality that is very reminiscent of a risograph or screen print. The wavy lines use a random distribution while the background uses a Gaussian distribution for contrast. The circle uses a biased distribution away from the centre for a more even grain as a random distribution through -1 and 1 has a natural bias towards the more central values around 0, causing an uneven spot in the centre. The square uses a random distribution for the base shape, with an added bottom left corner bias shadow over it to create an illusion of the tilt caused by the weight of the shadow. The rectangle uses a bottom bias distribution to create a fade effect.
