With two months and a dream I have embarked on a journey that I will never forget. Some might say a title like “Granny Went Postal” is insensitive, and they are right, but its much more than that. Its a story of elderly struggle and abuse, a story about pain, suffering, loss and blowing shit up. Enough about the game, this is my story; a story of the development of Granny Went Postal. One with ups and downs equivalent to the Medusa rollercoaster from Six Flags, a story about one man and a dream to make the greatest video game ever made. This is the development of Granny Went Postal.

Sprint One (February 6th) 1.5 Hours

Task List

My first week was filled with joy, ambition and a lot of planning. A little about the early versions of Granny went Postal I was focused a lot on recreating the aesthetic of early first person shooters like DOOM I and DOOM II, but with modern mechanics like an action reload. I was going to use Unity 6 for my project, mind you I haven’t spent a lot of time in this new version of Unity and thought this project would be an excellent way to discover all of the new tools and functions. While this seems ambitious (spoiler it was) I thought I had planned out my development nicely. The only problem was, I didn’t take into account things going wrong….

Sprint Two (February 7th - 11th) 3.5 Hours

Task List

Like a rollercoaster my mood dropped from happy to sad quickly, week two was supposed to be a productive week, I was supposed to have a fully functioning character and an enemy. This was not the case, my projects files had gotten corrupted, while I can’t remember my exact error message Unity 6 was not talking nicely to some of the packages that I downloaded for my project. I tried to circumvent this by downgrading my version, this does not work, but my tired brain thought it wouldn’t hurt to try and guess what, it didn’t work.

Sprint Three (February 13th - 19th) 8 Hours

Task List

Week three was the first of many sprints I would have to embark on during development. Being already two weeks behind my original start date I “Game Jammed” myself a fully functional character, an enemy and something that was resembling my original idea. I could finally see my vision coming to life and at the time it was glorious.
