Goals:
Identify pain points in using Google Maps while driving cars and ideate solutions to improve the experience.
User Personas:
At a high level two user segments use Google Maps regularly while driving cars:
- People driving their cars
- Cab drivers using maps through Uber/Ola apps
- The first user segment has more user personas and pain points compared to the cab drivers user segment.
- So I will choose the first user segment, list different user personas and understand their pain points.
Below are some of the user personas who use Google Maps while driving personal cars:
- Regular office commuters
- City dwellers explore the city during the weekend/People driving to unfamiliar places
- A new traveller from outside city exploring the city in self-drive cars
- Regular office commuters drive in the same route every day and rarely use Google maps when they need to take alternate routes.
- A new traveller in the city mostly books travel cabs or Uber and the number of travellers exploring new cities in self-drive cars is very minimal.
- With the above considerations, I would proceed with addressing the pain points of city dwellers using Google Maps while exploring the city during weekends in a car.
