Role Overview

At Sumo, the Data Scientist works at the intersection of large-scale data and machine learning. You’ll analyze complex datasets, design experiments, and optimize data pipelines that improve model behavior, efficiency, and real-world performance.

Your work will directly influence the quality, diversity, and impact of the data that powers next-generation AI models. You’ll collaborate with researchers, engineers, and operations teams to translate insights into measurable improvements for both internal workflows and customer-facing outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze large-scale datasets to uncover insights, diagnose model behavior, and improve ML workflows.
• Design experiments and optimize data collection pipelines to boost model performance and efficiency.
• Build and refine quality control processes that ensure datasets are diverse, representative, and unbiased.
• Collaborate with research, engineering, and operations teams to turn findings into measurable improvements.
• Identify gaps in data coverage and suggest improvements to acquisition or pipeline design.

Must Haves

• Strong background in data science, statistics, or applied machine learning, with experience solving real-world problems.
