Why do we collect personal data?
- We collect personal data to identify our users, personalize their experience on our platform and allow them to use features on our platform.
What personal data do we collect?
- When users sign-up, we collect their names, locations (inferred by IP), and email addresses. We also allow them to affiliate themselves with their employer. As visitors use the website, we collect data on their in-product activity. Through our research team operations and user contributions, we collect names, photos, job titles, office location, details about employing companies, social media profiles, and professional biographies. We do not collect consumer data, which includes age, health, web browsing history, health records, or economic status.
Where does the personal data we collect come from?
- Data on the Org comes from a variety of sources including publicly available pages on the internet (company websites, news articles, etc.) and our active community of contributors. Specifically, our research team uses a crawler to collect personal data from company team pages along with a variety of other sources including LinkedIn, Twitter, and Crunchbase. We also collect personal data when users contribute to our platform or sign-up for an account.
How do we currently plan to use personal data?
- We do not currently have plans to sell, lease or rent personal data. We publish the data we collect on our platform for free to support our mission of making organizations more transparent. We securely retain all personal data on our platform and it is against our terms of use to export data from our platform.
How does data get processed internally within the company (technical)?
- Our backend application processes data and it gets stored in AWS, which is our primary data warehouse. The data is simultaneously sent as an event to Segment which forwards the data to third party analytics platforms for processing. Our frontend tracks user interactions and forwards these to Segment which again forwards data to third party analytics platforms.
- Segment processes deletion requests for all 3rd party analytics platforms, so we don’t need to delete data individually from each third party platform.
What tools do we use for personal data collection/processing and who has access to these tools?
- Chartio, Amplitude, Zapier, Customer.io, Retool, Geckoboard, Segment, AWS, Databases, Google Analytics, Bugsnag, Delighted, HubSpot/Copper
- We limit access to these tools only to those who need it.
