What we're looking for
As a Data Engineer, you will be a prolific individual contributor to the dynamic data services and tooling that we are leveraging to shape the future of insurance. You will help bridge the gap between Product, Insurance, and Data while helping to improve our data infrastructure and applications by contributing to pipelines and new data systems. In addition, you will help to set the culture, rituals, and processes that underpin a high functioning engineering team and the organization more broadly.
Responsibilities
- Build, manage, and scale data pipelines that are extensible to our current systems with an eye toward performance and readability.
- Scope and integrate new data sources that can be used to improve the accuracy of our risk models.
- Create and maintain a clean production environment such that the data models can be easily interpreted and built upon by other data science and engineering team members.
- Make intelligent design decisions based on well-researched tradeoffs and support with the direction of the future of our products and systems.
- Take responsibility for the testing, documenting and debugging code you build.

- Present your work, findings, and opinions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Have a love for building and experience with new technologies with a passion for data and systems.
- Minimum 5 years experience in software development with coding experience building scalable and rich applications across a variety of stacks.
- Minimum 3 years of Python
- Have experience working with Lambda based projects (Chalice, Serverless, or Zappa a plus) as well as at least 3 years of experience with MongoDB.
- Experience working with SQS, RabbitMQ, or other data queues as well as building out API’s.
- Mastery of database technologies like PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and MongoDB in a service-oriented environment.
- Comfortable with building infrastructure, databases, APIs, deployment pipelines, etc.
- Experience working with remote team members consisting of both full-time teammates and 3rd party contractors.
