✍️ Summary
We are holding a DAO Chat this Friday in the time slot of our normal Town Hall! As Season 0 is coming to a close, we want to discuss two important items. First - DAO Structure. There has been great feedback in the "season-zero-questions" threads. This call will let us synchronously discuss these items. Second - Rewarding Contributions. We have two DRAFT proposals on our Forum. They are similar and both seek to ensure that we begin Season 1 with a better plan to recognize contributions up front! Since we held a Town Hall last week, we will resume next week.

Agenda
- Reviewing the existing rewards proposals
-
[DRAFT] Rewarding Contributions in $CODE
(@Will Kempster)
- Priorities
- Important that we get
$CODE
flowing to contributors
- Simple system for calculating budgets
- Flexibility for experimentation on the DAO Org Structure and Rewards mechanisms at Guild and Project level
- Need a framework that’s good enough and works rather than one that’s perfect
- Details
- Flat hourly rate of
$CODE
rewards across roles
- Guilds + projects define their own roles
- Contributors provide their own estimate of hours contributed per week
- Used to extrapolate funding for the Season
- Projects that drive revenue will suggest a % split of revenue between contributors and the DAO Treasury
- Guilds and Projects can apply for further funding mid-season when needed via Budget Application Process
- Drawbacks
- Valuing all work across the DAO equally in terms of reward
- Based on trust
- Difficult to estimate contribution hours
- Rewards in
$CODE
doesn’t help pay people’s bills
- Calculations can’t be perfect and there’s a reasonable chance we go over budget for Season 1
-
[DRAFT] Rewarding Contribution in $CODE
(Alternative) ( Erik_Knobl)
- Guilds and Projects are not working together, lacking synergy
- Integrate Guilds and Projects together in Org structure
- Projects decide which Guild they belong in, which is how they receive funds
- How it works
- Ops team decides how much total
$CODE
is budgeted
- Budget is split evenly between guilds
- Guilds decide how to divide their treasure between projects
- Each project decides how to split their reward among contributors
- Outcome
- Decentralized process allowing guilds and projects determine how to distribute their budgets
- Generates synergy between guilds and projects
-
Proposals
-
Questions
- Do projects live outside of guilds
- Long conversation
- Many examples of projects being successful living outside of a guild
- Consensus: YES
- Are project budgets scoped into guilds?
- How are we going to calculate how much $CODE goes into guilds?
- Should guild leaders decide on budgets for projects?
-
Scenarios / Other examples
- Example: web3con, pixel avatars
- Spun out of guilds
- Had contributions from people in every guild
- Became successful
- Gitcoin runs grant rounds on a quarterly basis
- Gitcoin doesn’t make their internal projects apply for grants. It’s part of a stricter internal governance structure.
- Projects should apply to gitcoin grant round
-
Other notes:
- Stablecoins as part of rewards to reduce volatility in $CODE
- $CODE should be for governance
- Coordinape is good for smaller circles as opposed to full season long circles
-
Other suggestions:
- Half grants, half retroactive
- Multiple rounds of grants per season
-
TL;DR
- Experimental trial of:
- 50% proactive (grants, etc.)
- 50% retroactive (coordinape, budget reallocation, etc.)
