Storyboard & eLearning Design Case Study
Project Overview
This project involved creating a storyboard for an eLearning lesson on condenser units and their components for HVAC learners.
The objective was to transform technical information into a structured learning experience that would help learners understand how condenser units function, identify their key components, and recognize important safety considerations.
My Approach
When designing the lesson, I focused on three instructional design principles:
- Building Familiarity Before Complexity
The lesson begins with a real-world image of condenser units commonly seen outside buildings. This creates an immediate connection to learners' existing experiences before introducing technical concepts.
- Visual Learning
Rather than relying solely on text, the storyboard incorporates visual callouts, animations, and process diagrams to help learners understand how individual components work together within the system.
- Progressive Knowledge Building
The lesson moves from:
Basic HVAC concepts
The role of the condenser unit
Individual component functions
System-level understanding
Safety considerations
This allows learners to build understanding gradually without becoming overwhelmed.
Deliverables
- Complete eLearning storyboard
- Screen-by-screen instructional flow
- Visual direction notes
- Animation recommendations
- Learning content for nine slides
- Process flow summary
- Safety reinforcement section
