[Assassin’s Creed: Passage] Process
The project explores the events of the founding of Singapore in 1819 through the lens of a contemporary video game medium, showcasing shifting powers and tensions between the British, Dutch and the Local Sultanate in the reimagined historical setting - based on the fictional world of Assassin’s Creed. Using historical events as an anchor, the protagonist Assassin of local origin works in the shadows to keep the power systems seeking to take control of the port of Singapore in balance. My research on Singapore’s history spanned beyond the scope of characters, but for the sake of specificity will only be covering the relevant information for hero character design.
As I had the desire to delve deeper into my country’s history and present it in a contemporary fashion, the Assassin’s Creed franchise was the perfect avenue for it. Seeing AC: Black Flag’s art showcase in person back in 2017 was incredibly inspiring, and what pushed me to begin my concept art journey. Designing an Assassin has always been a goal to me, official or not!

The idea for the Tidal Legion was to create an enigmatic race of aquatic Vastaya that resides in the depths of the sea. I was inspired by the short comic about Nami (Nami: Into the Abyss), and wanted to expand on the world that was established. As context and purpose is important for design, I also created this with the mindset of them being used for Legends of Runeterra cards.
