Transformation happens when our deepest resources meet our deepest needs

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a practical, systems-based approach to learning, healing and growth.

IFS is built around two basic ideas:

  1. At early ages we learn strategies for making sense of the world and protecting ourselves. IFS calls these strategies "parts".
  2. We all have an inner source of presence, clarity and love. IFS calls this the “Self”, and sees Self as the natural leader of our inner system of parts.

It’s hard to change parts through thinking about them, or when they are running wild or overwhelming us. But, they can change.

Change happens when we stop talking about our parts and start experiencing from them—while also staying connected to our grounded, adult Self. When a part is felt, voiced, and witnessed from Self, the brain can enter what modern neuroscience calls memory reconsolidation. At this moment there is a window within which old emotional patterns we may have lived with our entire lives can actually update.

In IFS we do this by building a trusting relationship with our parts. We bring compassion and curiosity and come to understand their perspectives deeply. Ultimately we want to bring them into relationship with your deepest intelligence, presence and love - your Self.

In our coaching container, the most essential thing I do is to bring a high quality of presence that helps you access this Self more easily.
