In the current state of our world, there has never been more of a need to create interdisciplinary communities to build tools for important social change. Despite the value of STEM in civic engagement, there has always been a large disconnect between the two disciplines. That is why our focus is on providing a welcoming, engaging, and creative environment to help bridge the gap between STEM and civic engagement by challenging participants to address major issues within the realm of civic engagement using tech.
We pride ourselves in helping both beginners and experienced hackers explore technology and develop their skillsโwith a conscience. Because of this, all kinds of hacks will be allowed (software, hardware, data-driven). If your team just has an idea, design, or prototype, your project will still be considered! Remember, these are just as important as the implementation.

This past year has had multiple low points, affecting our beliefs in our system of government, politics, and agencies, but it is one that requires us to have a lot of reflection and work towards social change. This track will prompt hackers to create solutions to benefit our community on a local, state, or federal level.
How Might We...
COVID-19 has introduced various problems with our healthcare system and has placed a lot of pressure on tele-health/medicine. This track will prompt hackers to build tools that benefit public health.
How Might We...
With climate change on the rise and our environment being threatened, we need tools that will help us eventually reach net zero emissions, advance renewable energy, and promote sustainability. This track will prompt hackers to develop solutions that promote environmental health.
How Might We...
The pandemic has affected how students interact, access resources, and ultimately succeed in their academic and social well-being. This track will prompt hackers to tackle issues that prevent student success or provide solutions that promote it.
How Might We...
The purpose of these โHow Might Weโ questions are to help you start thinking about the Sustainability Track, and are by no means a limitation on the types of projects you can pursue in this track.
