I am Christiane Mendes, teacher, social activist. I created together with other residents a project called Neduc in 2015. We live in the fourth largest slum in Brazil, our state Maranhão has one of the worst human development indexes. And our slum needed educational actions to favor children and young people.
NEDUC is a community education center. We have 3 pillars. Education - we offer tutoring for children from 6 to 10 years old and professionalization courses for youth and adults.
Another pillar is Entrepreneurship - we offer handicraft, gastronomy, and recycling workshops, and we create workshops on how to manage small and nano businesses for women, so that they understand how to manage, profit, and make the circular economy work in the slums. And our last pillar is Social Assistance - by adopting UBIs from Impactmarket and GoodDollar we can guarantee a minimum income for people below the poverty line.
