3 days later.
Jim and his parents have let Marina sleep with them for a while, knowing she didn’t have a place to live. Marina woke up from bed, seeing Jim nowhere in sight. The rain fell lightly in the distance, with a beautiful sight from the window.
She sat up, skin still glowing slightly, then she slowly walked up to the mirror and touched it. This time with no fear. “I’m not who I was, but I can be someone new.” She whispered to herself.
She walked down the stairs. Radio silence, not a breath in sight. She jumped on the couch and turned on the TV. “Breaking news: Rain forecasts are unusable because, over the last three days, a sudden stop of rain has occurred, even scientists are confused about what’s happening with the rain.”
“Some are calling it a miracle, but others are saying it’s a warning from the divine.” Marina got slightly irritated, and the rain started to fall faster, so she turned off the TV.
The rain suddenly stopped in the air, Water in a glass started moving magically, and Marina was zoning out. When she snapped back, all the water turned back to normal, but she didn’t notice.
She stood up from the couch, ready to make breakfast, but then she noticed that Jim's shoes were still right beside the door, and he was nowhere in sight. “Where the hell are they?” Marina sighed with a bit of anger.
She walked to the front door and opened it, but not a single soul was there, even though it was 08:30 AM on a Monday. “Oh my god. You can’t be serious. Is this a prank?” She said out loud, hoping someone would hear her.
“Hello!?” She screamed at the top of her lungs, and not even the birds in the trees were affected. She stepped out of the house, and the door closed behind her. She looked at the closed door and ran to it.
“HELLO? JIM, IF IT’S YOU, I WILL BEAT YOU!” She banged at the door. “Marina, wake up.” Jim’s voice said behind the wall. “I’M AWAKE DUMBO!” “What do you mean? Wake up.” He kept saying again and again.
Rain started to fall from the sky, thunderbolts struck, and waves started to clash against the island. Thunder shook her bones, and water began to burn her from the cold.
She kept banging on the door, but there was no sound. The lightning cracked louder. One split the ocean in half, making it bleed red. She began to feel aching pain from the head to the toes, and then, snap, she gasped.
Jim was screaming in her face, shaking her shoulder. She pushed him away and looked at the clock: 07:30 AM, then she looked out the window: the weather was the same. Marina turned pale and started to breathe heavily.
“YOU JUST LOOK OUT THE WINDOW AFTER HAVING AN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS IN YOUR SLEEP?” Jim screamed at her, concerned about her well-being. “No, no, no. We need to check the news.”
She stood up and started sprinting down the stairs to check the news. She jumped at the remote and turned on the TV. “Today’s weather will be 23°C, so go on a walk with your dog because this is the best weather we will be having in a while.”
Marina sighed and lay back on the couch, still a little scared about the rest of the day. “What the hell was that about?” Marina stood up and started to make breakfast, but not a word came from her.
“Hello? We’ve got school, and I already made lunch. Hurry up, we’ll be late.” Jim grunted, already putting on his shoes. “But I get home-schooled.” Jim looked up at her with a smile on his face.
“Well, that’s no more because my parents and the principal signed you up for my school, so get ready.” Marina choked on the milk she had drunk, her face red and ready to scream.
“WHAT? WHERE’S MY STUFF? WHAT’S THE PLAN? WILL WE EVEN BE IN CLASS WITH EACH OTHER?” Jim smirked and pointed towards two backpacks: one with a dark pink color and another fully black.
“Nope. No plan. And yes, we’ll be stuck together all. Day. Long.” He said with a full outfit, shoes on, and keys in hand. Jim opened the door and walked out with Marina, her back hunched over and eyes barely open.
