Jim and Marina woke up in the middle of the sky, falling outside the Volcano Island. “AHHHHHHH!!” Jim and Marina screamed. “HOLD ON TO ME!” Marina told Jim. Right before faceplanting on the ground, Marina turned herself and Jim into a puddle.
They splashed on the ground and quickly reformed into their human shapes, a bit shaken but intact. The sky was a brilliant shade of blue, surrounded by shimmering waves of the ocean. Jim almost fell from his dizziness.
“Did we just… fall?” Jim asked, still slightly dizzy from the transformation. “Seems like it. But I think we traveled to a different universe?” Marina replied, brushing some sand off her clothes.
“Yeah, same… My mother was alive.” Jim looked around the island. “Are we back to Volcano Island?” Marina asked Jim. “Looks like we are. Let‘s go back inside the Volcano.” Jim and Marina began walking up the volcano.
When they reached the opening on the top of the volcano, Marina made a staircase to get down. But Jim noticed something in the corner of his eye when he looked down the whole. “Psst, Marina, the Pirates are waiting on us,” Jim whispered to Marina.
The captain held the time orb in his hand. He shook the orb and disappeared into thin air. “Move, and you’ll meet death, alright?” The captain said behind Jim and Marina. His sword aimed towards Jim and Marina's heads.
They stood still, feeling the sword's steel inching closer to their necks. “We told you we don’t know where the gold i-” “I know… I know where the gold is, but if you hurt Jim or me, I won't tell you.” Marina said, taking a deep breath.
Jim looked confused, thinking Marina had lied to him again. The captain put his sword into his holster. “Stand up and tell me where it is.” Marina and Jim turned around. ”You’ve got it all wrong. I’ll show you where it is.”
The captain sighed. ”Alright. Let’s go down.” The three went down the icy stairs. “What is that orb? A Teleporter to a different universe?” Marina asked the captain. “A Time Machine.” The captain answered.
Jim looked shocked. “Why so shocked, little boy?” The captain asked Jim with a grin. “Oh, right, I almost forgot that your parents died. Did you see them?” The captain chuckled. “Why does everyone know about my parents?” Jim asked, annoyed.
When they reached the bottom, Marina took a deep breath as if she were guessing. There was only one door, but it led to the arena. But then she noticed something was wrong; the hieroglyphs on the wall suddenly stopped.
She tilted her head while looking at the hieroglyphs. She brushed some of the dust off the wall, as she thought more of the hieroglyphs had yet to be seen. She turned to Jim. “Hey, Jim. Did you read this hieroglyph?” Jim shook his head.
Jim closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, they were the burning red he had when Magmorak controlled him. “Isn’t this cool? Well, actually, it’s hot.” Marina faked a laugh and pointed towards the hieroglyphs.
“What all men see, yet never behold, Hidden in plain sight, covered in gold. Beneath your breath, the treasure lies, Found not with your hands, but with your eyes. A red hearing this is not, not without a thought, so look within and maybe you’ll win.”
Marina looked around the room for clues. Jim, still feeling the heat pulsing in his eyes, stepped closer to the hieroglyphs, tracing the carvings with his finger. “It’s right in front of us, but we’re missing something important,” he mused.
“What if it’s about perception? Maybe you could ask Magmorak.” The captain, who had been inspecting the place with a mixture of curiosity and impatience, scoffed. “You kids think too much.”
Marina shot him a glare. “We can’t just tell you where it is if we don’t know! Someone made the riddle to solve it, not to guess what it means.” “Fine, then solve it quickly,” the captain growled. “I don't have all day.”
Jim took a deep breath, trying to calm the fire within his eyes. “What if we try to find something hidden in the room? You know, a visual clue?” He looked around once more, focusing on the walls. The hieroglyphs told a story, but what story?
“What do you think we are doing, Sherlock?” Marina knelt, searching the floor. “Wait! What if there’s something beneath us?” She felt the ground around where the hieroglyphs ended. “Help me clear this area, Jim!”
They brushed away dust and debris, revealing a smooth stone slab that shimmered faintly in the dim light. “This must be it!” Jim exclaimed, excitement bubbling up despite the looming threat of the captain.
