A True Worshipper
Who were the Samaritans? They were a group of Jews who claimed lineage to the rest of the Jews but were obviously mixed as they descended from the group of Jews left behind in Samaria that intermarried with the Assyrians that had conquered them. They also did not adhere to the same exact beliefs of the Jews. They only believed in Torah (the first 5) and believed in a different site of worship than Jerusalem.

Sometimes our focus is on the wrong things. Jesus wanted to remind us that He sees our differences, He sees our sins but His focus is on our worship. He meets us where we are and reminds us that God is looking for an active relationship. We can see this in His response to the disciples.
It is His work we are reaping not our own.
