The car screeches to a halt, and two officers step out. "Are you Jim Lake?" one of them says, his voice firm. "We need you to come with us. Your foster parents have filed a missing person report."
Marina steps forward. "He was with me. We were just training." The officer raises an eyebrow. "Training? Training for what, exactly?" Jim looks at Marina, his mind racing. He feels this is about more than just a missing person report.
Maybe it was the fire-kick. Perhaps the broken titanium punching bag. Or maybe, just maybe, someone else knows about his powers, too. He makes a decision. "I'll go with them," he says, his voice surprisingly calm.
"But Marina comes with me. She's my… legal guardian." The officers exchange a glance. "Alright," one of them says, "but we'll need to ask you both some questions down at the station."
As Jim climbs into the back of the police car, he catches Marina’s eye. She gives him a small, reassuring nod. While driving to the police station, the officer says, “It’s only 30 minutes away.” Jim asks, “If this were just a ‘missing case report,’ why would we need to go to the police station?”
“Well, uhmm, it’s needed so we can write in the system that you aren’t missing anymore.” The police officers say in a questionable voice. “But you also said that we need to answer some questions,” Marina said.
“Well, you didn’t even answer us when we asked about what ‘training’ you were doing by the dock.” The police said. “We were training… Kung Fu. What else could we be training for?” Jim said with a scared voice.
“We have arrived at the station.” The police officer said. “Sit down. We only need a few questions,” the other officer said. “Can you just take me to my foster parents?” Jim said with a tired voice. “Not yet. Lake,” the officer said.
“How did you survive the tsunami?” The officer asked. “I don’t remember. It all just happened in a second.” Jim said. “Did you guys see any sign of how that Megatsunami suddenly stopped?” the other police officer said.
“No, it was like someone punched the whole ocean,” Marina said. “We heard a massive splash in the ocean. The titanium bag we put on the tree was gone. Do you know what happened?” The officer said.
“Enough questions. Just take me home,” Jim said in an angry voice. I have a bad feeling about this,” Marina whispered to Jim. “ABSOLUTE ZERO!” Marina screamed while freezing the police officers.
“WHY DID YOU DO THAT?” Jim asked. “Run, we need to run. They weren’t real police officers, but it doesn't mean this isn't a real police station.” Marina said. Jim uses Fire Kick on the wall so they can escape without being noticed, but alarms begin to ring.
They tried to run out of the station, but the real police were outside. “POLICE HANDS UP!” They say in a group. “What now, Marina? Jim said sarcastically, “I didn’t train you for no reason.” Marina said with a smile.
Jim sighs, “SMOKE BOMB!” Jim screams while running from the station with Marina. “Nice work, but we need to work on the blast radius,” Marina says sarcastically. “Do we need to talk about training while running from the police?” Jim asks.
“Never too late to train!” Marina said. “Where are we going?” Jim asked with a scared voice. “Jump in the water!” Marina said. “What? Why, I’m the opposite of water right now!” Jim said back.
“THAT’S THE PURPOSE!” Marina said while pushing Jim into the water. “I can’t breathe!” Jim said out loud. “Hey, Sherlock, if you can’t breathe, how can you talk?!” Marina said sarcastically. “H-How am I doing this?” Jim asked, confused.
“Well, if you focused in school, you would know that if lava or magma touches water, the water evaporates,” Marina said in a mean voice. “But I haven’t transformed into Magmorak. I’m just me.” Jim said confused
“That means my training worked!” Marina said. “Woah, woah, woah, it’s my learning that did this,” Jim said. Police sirens slowly get louder and louder, but it gets disoriented by the water. The police officers asked, “Where are they?” “Do you hear them?” “Where could they be?”
“They must be in the forest on the other side of the island. Let’s go!” One of them said. Police sirens getting quieter made Jim and Marina confident enough to swim up from the water.
“Hey! Marina, can you help me up? I can’t swim up if I just evaporate the water above.” Jim asked. “Nope, you need to figure out how to turn your powers on and off without becoming Magmorak,” Marina said with a grin.
