We’re on a mission to make the world better friends

At Picnic, we understand how important friendships are; they make our lives happier, our bodies and minds healthier, and our decisions better (well… most of the time). Our friends are in fact the single most important contributing factor to our overall happiness and health.

Over the last decade though, the social apps that we rely on to support these relationships on a daily basis have neglected that fact. Depression among social media's heaviest users is up three-fold while Gen Z are the loneliest generation in history.

Picnic is a next-generation social app built with your wellbeing embedded in our DNA. Backed by science and the researcher who discovered Dunbar’s number, we’re changing the way friends connect and share online for the better.

The app

Picnic is the photo-swapping app you’ve been waiting for. No more low-quality photos, AirDrop chaos, cluttered camera rolls or precious memories lost in the group chat. We’re building an app that makes it simple to send and receive photos, easy to pick the ones you want to keep, and fun to use when you want to look back on old adventures.

Here’s how it works…

Swap pics instantly

Just drag your photos and drop them on your friends avatar to start a swap. Then they do the same to send you their pics. Easy.

Pick your favourites

Once a swap has started, you and your friends have 24 hours to favourite the pics you want to keep. Everything else goes.

When the swap is over, you're left with an edit of just the best bits – and a shareable slideshow video built for social.

What Would Dunbar Do?

Our mission to make the world better friends is at the core of everything we do. Abandoning our integrity would be a surefire way of ending up becoming the very thing (or company) we set out to disrupt. We are committed now and always to putting people's wellbeing above profits.

That means we'll never consider extractive advertising business models that harvest or sell people's personal data as viable. Every feature we build or decision we take must be rooted in strengthening relationships and improving wellbeing, backed by the science that's available to us. That’s why it was so important to us to become certified as a B Corp early on.
