After days of peaceful protests calling on the Nigerian government to put an end to the tyranny perpetrated by Special Anti-Robbery Squad division of the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian government has refused to listen.

Dear Nigerians in Canada,

Your Canadian Ministers are duty-bound to respond when you contact them. This goes for everyone who resides in Canada, even if you're not yet a citizen or PR. Let's ask the Canadian Government to support #EndSARS

The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, MP  Minister of Foreign Affairs  House of Commons  Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A6

Dear Mr. Champagne,

“There is no crueler tyranny than that which is perpetrated under the shield of the law and in the name of justice....”

Today, I call on you and the Government of Canada to speak out in strong condemnation of the ongoing tyranny in Nigeria.

Over the past two weeks, Nigerians have united to raise their voices peacefully protesting tyranny perpetrated by a police taskforce known as the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). For years, this taskforce has robbed, maimed, and murdered the very civilians they were commissioned to protect. This month, the youth peacefully protested in the streets and online using the hashtags #EndSARS #EndPoliceBrutalityInNigeria to create awareness and demand that the government take measures to reform the police.

On October 20, 2020, the world has witnessed Nigeria bleeding at its heart. Unarmed civilians in Lagos, who were exercising their right to peacefully assemble and protest, have been shot by the military on orders of the government. Prior to the shooting, security cameras were removed by agents of the state and the streetlights were turned off.

I request that you support Canadians of Nigerian descent by speaking out against these injustices and condemning the perpetrators in the strongest of terms.

I look forward to your response.

Thank you!
