Agenda

  1. Update from Alex (doing lots of teaching right now too) re: Nautilus and funding potentials
    1. training bottleneck, BUT ALSO, curriculum, advisor, mentor bottleneck
    2. is there funding, could there be, and under what auspice?
      1. founder and president of nautilus, fiscal sponsorship from maps in the works for tax exempt status could be helpful
      2. maybe MAPS might want to stay separate, they would still have to approve as a tax exempt activity
      3. met with 3 people who all agreed a great idea, might have personal donations come in to support it a bit
      4. Next Steps: think we can do without funding
        1. a proposal we feel good about, specific rationale, vision, plan of execution, budget ask (labor) then I can share with others
        2. (dan)before we fund, let's plot our MVP 1st, then spread it out beyond the PhD clinical track, then funding and scaling would be more
        3. would also add: Vil: depending on the activities and projects, SSDP could be a fiscal sponsor partner potential
          1. also as a fundraising arm
  2. Update from Vilmarie (and a warm welcome!) re: SSDP/IPN intersections emerging
    1. Sana Healing Collective! CPTR program grads, Chicago and nonprofit model
      1. Pipeline:
        1. came to be a few years ago, we had many students coming to SSDP through MAPS and saw the need for members wanting to get more into this work, how to help?
        2. Realized the extent of lack of information, thought of my own experience and the points along my career path and what might have been helpful, that's what became the 3 tiers of the pipeline
        3. overarching goal/vision to create a pathway for students to get connected to the field through mentorship
          1. through scholarship and training
          2. and everything in between
        4. 1st project: mentorship was most needed
          1. 1st cohort, 2nd forming
          2. Focus on ensuring particularly POC and drug war impacted have more access to these opportunities
          3. Looking at a broad scope because we have many members from many disciplines and interest
          4. wanted to bring in experts beyond just psychology
            1. all kinds of mentors in our network!
          5. Scholarship/training opportunities
            1. fundraising we'd like to do to be able to send our folks to trainings, to bring in quality trainig to our membership that is unique just for us, develop more targeted efforts
            2. Source Research Foundation and their scholarship programs and grant progams
          6. The biggest stretch:
            1. would love to have some sort of training consortium, bring together experts in research for clinical training sites that are APA accredited, all in colalboration, all in serve of the community
              1. another reason for developing the pipeline:
                1. lots of different personalities in the field
                2. managing interests
                3. guaranteeing mentorship and safety of support for SSDPers, quality mentors who care about the war on drugs and the young people impacted
          7. Right now we have over 50 members being mentored by 40 mentors (WOW!)
            1. just completed our mid-point eval, seems people are enjoying it so far
            2. many things we wished for that could not happen (pandemic and all...)
            3. getting pieces together for our applications to be launched
            4. webpage forming
            5. new collaborations with Zendo etc. (maybe IPN, CASPR)
            6. "building the coolest resources that any young person or old person interested in psychedelics can access"
      2. Reverse mentorship: an older person who is not connected with a younger person is totally missing out! (Alex)
        1. Vil: yes for many folks this was a great chance for mentors to learn how to develop mentorship relationships
          1. handbook in service of that
      3. Kyle: are all mentors active in the psychedelic field?
        1. Vil: a mixed bag, works well because our members come from all levels, undergrad to grad, we have mentors that are great at organizing which helps younger members well, and then we have clinicians who are researchers that are working on clinical trials
      4. kyle: were mentors worried about privacy at all?
        1. no "open registry" privacy and access, not releasing private info for contacts, recognizing the sensitive nature of all this, not wanting to be bombarded by Randos
        2. you never know how people feel about it, so we tend to protect our members and the mentors, we keep it tight like that
      5. kyle: within doing that how did you find mentors?
        1. network connections, Wes Hale via MAPS, putting it out through the psychedelic support network, relationships snowballing to find the folks most interested
        2. ideally with a website and webpage that's even more outreach
      6. kyle: i see a survey response through this, what did you use?
        1. "interest forms" google forms worked for us
        2. SSDP Does use NationBuilder as our volunteer donor CRM
      7. kyle: for first round limited to SSDP members, but mentors are broad, but you were thinking of opening up to anyone?
        1. anyone who wants to be a mentee needs to be an SSDP member, lots of easy ways to do that though, not difficult to do
      8. kyle: lots of overlap between these projects, and a well formed registry could really help, we also want to connect with faculty peer support to bring in research to their university, a faculty psychedelic ambassador, you think of expanding to peer to peer work?
        1. yes, we created a Slack for everyone involved, not a ton of engagement but comes form our capacity to engage with
        2. we plan to do more networking between the mentors themselves this cohort though
      9. "SSDP" & "psychedelic pipeline" language, framing involving the "drug" war
        1. those are not our people
        2. trying to "convert" those people
          1. SSDPers are focused and informed
          2. CASPR as a bridge from the "general" interest to the knowledgeable DPR work of SSDP
          3. CASPR as a primer to bring to the Pipeline
            1. "great! you are interested in psychedelic therapy! lets teach you some things about how that impacts the people you work with and the way this field is developed "
          4. Alex: "safe zone stickers" during 90s, as an emblem and signifier of solidarity, while this is not the same, there are specific material risks and harms to students and faculty at all levels, and so let's also recognize that sometimes the more subversive thing is to not be upfront and loud about things that are radical, sometimes the non-radical thing is to have a nonpolicy on things, might allow people to participate who might not otherwise be able to
          5. Kyle: also support this theory as a sister partnership, SSDP is very clearly defined, so we don't have to mention that at CASPR, but doesn't mean the at we don't have partnerships at with these goals. Don't have to lead with it, seen and evident in our partners. Our goal is to make this accessible to as many as possible.
        3. Vil: the pipeline is continuously evolving and in development
          1. how to "host" our matching process, just spreadsheets now, but we are looking to more techie things
          2. as far as fiscal stuff, I don't think that SSDP is taking on any new fiscal sponsors maybe with transitions
            1. if there's ways that this project can fit within the Psychedelic Pipeline, then we can be doing some fo the fundraising through SSDP to serve to get some funding to do that stuff
          3. Joseph and rachel could maybe help us write some grants and play with monies
            1. Alex: can you give us a sense of what kind of funds are required to support the pipeline effort?
              1. from Threshold we got 25 k to start the pipeline project, thats what we have and that has been the whole development that we've done up to now
              2. we've reapplied, we'll see what happens
              3. donors like the idea of the pipeline, if we have specific projects, donors could like that too
  3. Update from Evan (/Lali/Katie re: Current Psychedelic Advisors
    1. where do you all think we should emphasize our efforts?
      1. similar project to this could be: a lit review on all the psychedelic things published in the last 5 years, catalogue their hospitals, mutli-author studies: can a faculty support a student in their department when the student is considering the applications. A snowball method can emege out of these relationships and contacts
      2. and maybe they cant take on a student for a project, but maybe they want to mentor someone (send to pipeline!)
      3. we can tag them like that too, send them a certain version of a form email based upon the level of interest and experience
      4. Maybe a webpage with just these recent theses and dissertations getting light
      5. Google alerts: long term you can set something up and it automatically get things sorted into the database and it would be self sustaining
        1. Council on Spiritual Practices: bibliography of psychedelic works
          1. auto-updating resource could be cool
        2. Paul Stamets recently shared a psilocybin research.com with ongoing updating thing of that reserach
  4. Update from Kyle and Dan (natl center for PTSD in Boston)
    1. Primary Questions:
