Access Map is an accessibility-first navigation experience designed for people who can’t “just take stairs”—wheelchair users, people with temporary injuries, older adults, parents with strollers, and anyone who needs reliable step-free mobility.

The design focuses on one core outcome: reach the destination without surprise barriers, even when real-world conditions change (lift outage, blocked path, closed entry).

Problem

Most navigation products optimize for “fastest route,” but accessibility users optimize for reliability + certainty.

What breaks trust:

• Route looks fine, then suddenly stairs appear
• Lift is out of service but map doesn’t warn in time
• Accessible entrances are hidden (back doors, ramps, side gates)
• When things go wrong, reroute feels like punishment, not support

Result: anxiety, wasted time, and users stop relying on maps.
