What is capture?

Throughout the day, we generate new ideas and remember tasks we have to do. Get these ideas out of your head and into your task manager.

Todoist has a special list named Inbox, which is designed for low friction capture. Not sure where the idea fits in your system? Capture it in the inbox and make that decision later.

Getting tasks and things to remember out of your head opens up space for you to think. A digital task manager has a better memory than you; capturing to your task manger reduces the chances you'll forget to do something.

Action:

• [ ] Take 15 minutes to think about everything you have to do, and input those tasks into your task manager.
• [ ] As you're going about your day, each time you think of something you'd like to do later, pull out your phone and input that task into your task manager.
• [ ] Set aside 15 minutes each day for processing your inbox. For each item, decide where it belongs in the task manager — or delete it, if it no longer has any value.
• [ ] Check if your task manager has a "quick entry" keyboard shortcut. Practice using it! For Todoist, it's Ctrl-⌘-A on macOS.

You're ready to move on when you can confidently capture ideas and tasks into your task manager.
