Title: Budget Lock Mode

Streak Feature Title: Budget Lock Streak

Summary:

Budget Lock Mode is a behavioral budgeting feature designed to help YNAB users protect essential spending categories (like rent and bills) by giving them an optional, opt-in tool that gently reinforces discipline and consistency. The feature introduces a lock system, motivational visual elements, and monthly tracking to help users reflect on their budgeting habits without guilt or restriction.

Problem Statement

What problem are users facing?

Many users , especially students or neurodivergent individuals , find themselves moving money out of fixed categories into more flexible (or impulsive) ones. This compromises their ability to meet essential expenses. Users want structure, but YNAB’s core philosophy is flexibility.

Who are the users?

Jessica, a 21-year-old college student, often reallocates rent money to cover clubbing expenses. Her spending habits clash with her financial goals. Budget Lock Mode gently prompts her to reflect and reprioritize without enforcing rigid restrictions.
