This is a public event organised in collaboration with Friends of Bradford's Becks. There will be talks about the past and present of the Becks, a guided walk, and games.
Please note that due to the nature of the event, we made the decision to only capture general notes.
General Notes
- The Congruence Engine activity (mapping points of interest onto a historical map of Bradford) has - perhaps unsurprisingly - drawn a lot of older people, including some of the Friends of Bradford Becks volunteers
- May have been to the detriment of drawing more people to the activity, as plotting points on the map requires a lot of crowding over it; people also hovered around for a while to chat with CE members about their own memories of Bradford and thoughts about the mapping exercise
- Friends of Bradford Becks activities were mostly aimed towards children and young people, but some adults were also participating as well
- There was a lot of conversation occurring with adults about their memories related to Bradford’s environment (e.g., Scouts)
- People really enjoyed the board game that Friends of Bradford Becks created!
- Another example of the use and value of game-ifying engagement and participation!
- People also just seem to like maps!
- Similar to photographs, they are a very tangible source of memories!
- Friends of Bradford Becks have been asking visitors at the start if they have any memories related to waterways in Bradford
- It's definitely a good way to jumpstart conversations!
- Memory as a motivator
