They look and feel like toys, but each one has a unique symbol on the bottom that the system instantly recognizes. The pieces are made from a custom blend of plastic and capacitive material. Capacitive material **is what enables Board to “see” the piece naturally, just like a finger touch.
Together, the capacitive material and the symbol tell Board exactly what the Piece is, where it is on the surface, and which way it is facing. There are no batteries, no pairing, and no electronics inside the pieces. Smart design makes the pieces kid-proof, affordable, and reliable at any speed. They’re the magic that lets physical play drive digital worlds.

Capacitive piece models
Board is a 24-inch tabletop console purpose built for shared, face-to-face play. It uses an extra-bright, anti-glare capacitive touch display, the same kind of touch technology found in phones but scaled up so multiple players can tap, slide, and interact from any side. The screen is designed for clarity in any room and durability for constant family use.
Inside, Board runs a MediaTek ARM-based CPU, GPU, and NPU. The CPU manages core game logic and system operations. The GPU drives smooth, high-frame-rate graphics. The NPU runs Board’s piece-recognition and proprietary embedded AI models in real-time, keeping gameplay responsive and removing any dependency on the cloud.
Board includes dual stereo speakers, dual-band WiFi 6, Bluetooth, a built-in microphone, USB-C and microSD ports, and 64 gigabytes of onboard storage. It is slim enough for a coffee table yet large enough to create a big, beautiful shared play space.
Exploded view of the Board hardware
PieceSense translates the raw signals from the capacitive display created by pieces, hands, and fingers into a clear understanding of what is happening on Board. It can instantly recognize which piece is which, where it is, how it’s rotated, and how it’s moving. While at the same time understanding when unwanted fingers and palms are touching the screen intentionally or not. PieceSense has been trained on thousands of hours of real interactions, so it behaves reliably even in the chaos of real family play. Phones and tablets can’t do this today.
PieceSense runs entirely on the device using the NPU inside every Board. It does not rely on the cloud, which means recognition happens instantly with no connection required. The system fuses what it learned during training with fast on-device inference and applies smoothing techniques to keep everything steady and accurate, even when pieces are moving quickly.
This intelligence is what gives Board its magic. Pieces feel responsive and intentional, like real tools inside the game world, unlocking play patterns that were not possible on consumer hardware until now.

BoardOS is built on Android and designed specifically for shared, tabletop play. This means it needs to handle multiple accounts intelligently. BoardOS handles customer onboarding, profile management for families, parental controls, networking, and saved games.
It also powers the Board Store, where players can browse, purchase, install, and delete games with the same ease they expect from a modern app store. All of this works together to make the system feel invisible. BoardOS keeps everything immediate, responsive, and easy to use, letting players focus entirely on the experience at the table.
