About Dunghutti Youth

Our mission is to get kids back to school, back to the bush and back together in Kempsey.

We’re here to build a bridge between the kids of Kempsey and our community by teaching them new skills, showing them how to have self-respect and by inspiring them with what they can do in the world.

We were formed as a way for the community of Kempsey to recognise, remember and respect the life of David Dungay Jnr: to fulfill David’s personal dream of lifting up the young people in our community. Our group aims to help the community address some of the systemic and cultural issues - such as racism and inequality - that are still major challenges for our community and contribute to the death of Aboriginal people in custody.

We’re working towards a world where all young people are treated equally, have access to the same opportunities, where there are zero Aboriginal deaths in custody and where our community is strengthened by young leaders - of all colours and backgrounds - who work together, support each other and respect and celebrate the things that we all share and the things that make us all different.
