This educational session will provide you with information on the mission, goals, and purpose of the Black Lives Matter movement. This session will also provide you with tangible action steps you can take to advocate for Black lives.

Amanda Finzi Smith (Moderator)

Amanda Finzi-Smith, M.S. received her Bachelor’s of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management as well as her Master’s of Science in Higher Education Administration, from Florida International University. While pursuing her undergraduate and graduate degrees, she also received certificates in Events and Meeting Planning as well as Teambuilding and Development Facilitation. She has worked in Residential Life for the last 5 years at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), where she currently serves as a Resident Director.


Bri Giger (Panelist)

Bri Giger is a Black, Indigenous (Cherokee & Seminole), Queer Activist, Actress, Comedian, Writer, DJ, and proud BLM member. Bri has been an active member within the BLM movement by protesting on the front lines & being a main speaker for engagements related to this cause.


D'Artagnan Scorza (Panelist)

Dr. Scorza believes that education can be used as a tool for civic and social empowerment in order to advance justice in communities. His work has centered on building leaders who fight for equity in schools and communities while currently serving as the Executive Director and Founder of the Social Justice Learning Institute and President of the Board of Education for Inglewood Unified School District.


David Cunningham (Panelist)

David Cunningham is a 21 year-old Law Student, UCLA Student, Activist, Former Foster Youth and member of Black Lives Matter.


Trisden Shaw (Panelist)

Shaw is a recent graduate of UCLA’s African American Studies Master’s Program. At UCLA, he dedicated his time to demanding space for Black students on campus as president of the BGSA. Currently, he is 1/2 of Brewin Black, a podcast that fuses Black popular culture with an academic lens to discuss a variety of issues in the Black community.
